Music Notes, May 2012
THIS MONTH: Our Featured Artist is blue-eyed rock ‘n soul legend Michael McDonald. We’ll take you on-stage with him – before one of his shows – to hear some candid perspectives on the art and craft of songwriting. Plus, we’ll spend a little time with another master music maker – pianist, composer, arranger and producer Bob James. Bob is a true jazz icon, and one of the founders of the jazz supergroup Fourplay. But that’s not all! You’ll also get a taste of one three terrific guitarists – Nashville singer songwriter Tom Kimmel, Scandinavian jazz fusion heavyweight Soren Reiff and American blues rock patriot Mark Doyle. Many of Tom’s songs have been recorded by some of music’s biggest stars…Soren has become one of the most sought after guitarists and Musical Directors in Western Europe…and Mark is, in Studio Jams’ producer Tom Emmi’s opinion, one of rock’s best kept secrets. Although Mark flies a bit “under the radar,” this fresh and edgy guitarist is also a highly accomplished pianist, producer, string arranger and songwriter.
Our Featured Festival this month takes us to Syracuse, New York (USA)…site of the 30th annual Syracuse Jazz Festival. This 2-day festival is always free and open to the public and always offers an eclectic and diverse lineup of national and international performers.
