THIS MONTH: It is with great sadness to report on the recent passing of singer-songwriter Larry Hoppen. Larry was a longtime friend and fan of both Studio Jams and MUSICMAKERS. For years, Larry was always nearby with an encouraging word for us to keep pushing forward with all that we do. He was an inspiration to not only me, but to our entire organization as well. Last month, Larry was featured as a notable MUSICMAKER in our members-only Studio Jams Music Club. In honor of him, we have moved that feature onto our MUSICMAKERS page, open to anyone who visits the site. Larry is the only MUSICMAKER we choose to feature this month. Please check it out. We miss him for sure…but his spirit will forever be part of this site. R.I.P. Larry. Thank you so much.
Our Featured Festival this month is the Jazz At The Lake Festival coming up this September in upstate New York. Now in its 29th year, this festival takes place in the quaint little Adirondack town of Lake George, NY…about an hour north of Albany. If you’re a serious music lover, and have an appreciation for important International jazz, this is a festival you certainly don’t want to miss!
STUDIO JAMS MUSIC CLUB: Some nice stuff in the Music club this month: an intimate 30-minute MUSICLAB session with jam band bassist Oteil Burbridge, hosted by fellow bassist Gerald Veasley. Plus, some on-stage time with Dave Matthews Band drummer Carter Beauford, as he gives us a little “tour” of his complete drum kit. As usual, there is another complete episode of Studio Jams to enjoy – this time it’s Episode #16, with Grammy Award winning mandolin master Chris Thile, saxophonist Karl Denson, guitarist Steve Kimock, bassist Jon Reshard and drummer Rodney Holmes. Plus, another free unreleased Studio Jams “Bonus Track” for you to download. It pays to become a member of this hip, new music community.
